How to Enable Dark Mode in Notion for Web, Desktop, iOS, and Android with Screenshots
If you spend a lot of time in front of a monitor (like I do :)), you are sure to notice that staring at applications with light-colored backgrounds can really hurt your eyes (I’m looking at you, Google Sheets). Fortunately, the kind folks at Notion have added dark mode to reduce the strain on your eyes when working in Notion.
Enabling Dark Mode in Notion for Desktop
To enable dark mode in Notion for Desktop, do the following:
- Open up Notion
- In the left panel, click on “Settings & members”
- Click on “My notifications & settings”
- Under “My settings”, in the “Appearance” section, select “Dark” from the drop-down menu
- The Notion application should now be in dark mode
Open Up Notion
Open the Notion application on your desktop.
In the left panel, click on “Settings & members”
Next, in the left-hand panel, click on “Settings & members” as shown in the screenshot above.
Click on “My notifications & settings”
Third, in the left-hand panel of the pop-up window, click on “My notifications and settings” as shown in the screenshot above.
Under “My settings”, in the “Appearance” section, select “Dark” from the drop-down menu
Finally, in the “Appearance” section under “My settings”, click on the drop-down menu and select “Dark” from the available options
Your Notion application should now be in dark mode.
Enabling Dark Mode in Notion for Web
You can also enable dark mode when working in Notion in a web browser like Google Chrome. To enable dark mode in the web version of Notion, do the following:
- Open up Notion in your web browser
- In the left panel, click on “Settings & members”
- Click on “My notifications & settings”
- Under “My settings”, in the “Appearance” section, select “Dark” from the drop-down menu
- The Notion application should now be in dark mode
Open up Notion in your web browser
Open up your web browser and log into Notion.
In the left panel, click on “Settings & members”
In the left panel, click on “Settings & members”.
Click on “My notifications & settings”
Next, click on “My notifications and settings” in the left panel.
Under “My settings”, in the “Appearance” section, select “Dark” from the drop-down menu
In the “Appearance” portion of the “My settings” section, click on the drop-down menu and select “Dark” as shown in the screenshot above.
Notion should now be in dark mode in your web browser as shown above.

Enabling Dark Mode in Notion for iOS
There are a couple of more steps to take when enabling dark mode for Notion in iOS. To enable dark mode in Notion for iOS, do the following:
- Open the Notion App
- In the upper-left corner of the screen, press the left-pointing chevron button
- Click on the circle ellipsis button in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen
- Select “Settings” from the available options
- In the “Appearance” section, press the drop-down menu button
- Select “Dark” by pressing on it and press the “Done” button to save choice
- Press “Done” to close the “Notification & settings” screen
- Your Notion iOS app should now be in dark mode
Open the Notion App
On your iOS device, open up the Notion app.
In the upper-left corner of the screen, press the left-pointing chevron button
In the upper-left-hand corner of the app window, click on the left-pointing chevron button (<) as shown and indicated in the screenshot above.

Select “Settings” from the available options
A pop-up menu should appear. Press on the “Settings” option to access your Notion settings screen as shown in the screenshot above.
In the “Appearance” section, press the drop-down menu button
You should now be on the “Notifications & settings” screen. Scroll down to the “Appearance” section and press on the drop-down menu as shown in the screenshot above.
Select “Dark” by pressing on it and press the “Done” button to save choice
You should now be on the “Appearance” screen. Press on “Dark” and then press “Done” to save your choice as shown in the screenshot above.
Press “Done” to close the “Notification & settings” screen
Once you have confirmed that the appearance attribute is set to dark, press the “Done” button to exit the “Notifications & settings” screen as shown above.
Your Notion iOS app should now be in dark mode as shown above.
How to Enable Dark Mode in Notion for Android
To enable dark mode in Notion for Android, do the following:
- Open the Notion app on your Android device
- Press the Hamburger Menu button in the top right corner of screen
- In left panel, press “Notification & settings” button
- Scroll down to “Appearance” and press the drop-down menu button
- Select “Dark” by pressing it
- Press the “Done” button to save your change
- The app will now be in dark mode
Open the Notion app on your Android device
Open up the Notion app on your Android device
Press the Hamburger Menu button in the top right corner of screen
Next, click on the “hamburger” button in the upper-left corner of the screen as shown in the screenshot above.
In left panel, press “Notification & settings” button
A side panel will appear as shown above. Press on “Notifications & settings”.
Scroll down to “Appearance” and press the drop-down menu button
You should now see the “Notifications & settings” screen. Scroll down to the “Appearance” section and press on the drop-down button as shown in the screenshot above.
Select “Dark” by pressing it
In the Appearance screen, choose “Dark” by pressing on it.
Press the “Done” button to save your change
The app should change to dark mode as shown above. Press “Done” to exit the “Notifications & settings” screen.
The app will now be in dark mode.
