How to Embed a Google Map into Notion

I love Google Maps. I have been using Google Maps for years and it hasn’t failed me yet. I also love Notion, the all-in-one productivity tool that is becoming a bigger and bigger part of my workflow. Sometimes when working in Notion, I want to denote a geographic location on my Notion page. Maybe I will be traveling and want to include a Google Map of where I will be staying as an example.

Notion supports the ability to embed a Google Map inside your Notion page. To embed a Google Map inside a Notion page, do the following:

  • Go to maps.google.com
  • Type in your address or landmark and click Enter
  • Copy the URL from the address bar
  • Open Notion to the page you want to add the map to
  • Click on the body of the page and type /map and select Google Maps
  • Paste the URL of the map in the text box and click Embed Map

The rest of this blog post will cover how to embed a Google Map into Notion, complete with screenshots of each step in the process.

Go to maps.google.com

Open your web browser of choice and navigate to maps.google.com.

Click inside the Search Google Maps text box and type in the address

Once the Google Maps page appears, click inside the Search Google Maps text. Type in the address of the location you want to map. Alternatively, if the location is a landmark, you can simply type in the name of the landmark (in this case Times Square) to pull up the map.

Copy the URL from the address bar

Next, you need to copy the URL of the map from the address bar of your web browser. Notion will use the URL to retrieve and display the map inside the Notion page. Click inside the address bar and type the following to select the URL and copy it to the clipboard:

Open Notion to the page you want to add the map to

Open up Notion to the page that you want to add the map.

Click on the body of the page and type /map and select Google Maps

Click on the page where you would like the Google Map to appear. Type /map to bring up the Embeds menu with Google Maps as the first option. Click on Google Maps to select it.

Paste the URL of the map in the text box and click Embed Map

Once you have selected Google Maps as the embed option, a pop-up window will appear as shown in the screenshot above. Click on the text box and paste the Google Maps URL from your clipboard using the appropriate keyboard shortcut for your system:

Once you have pasted the URL into the text box, click the Embed Map button to embed the map into the Notion page.

Your Google Map should now appear in your Notion page.

You can toggle the map view from Map view to Satellite view by clicking the small square image in the lower-left hand corner of the map as shown below:

You can also zoom in or out of the map or satellite view by clicking the + button to zoom in and the – button to zoom out. Additionally, you can hold down the following buttons and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom in or out:

If you want to see a larger view of the map, click the View larger map button in the upper-right hand corner of the map. Click this button will open the map in your web browser.
